2018 Acura MDX vs 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS

The 2018 Acura MDX doesn’t retreat from the luxury lineage of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS, nor should it. Take a closer look β€” you’ll find that the Acura possesses a stronger blend of power and efficiency, superior interior configurability, and a level of standard comfort and safety unmatched by the Mercedes-Benz GLS. There’s little room to deny that the Acura has pulled to the head of its segment, which you’ll understand when you take a test drive at Sterling McCall Acura in Houston.

Power and Efficiency

Depend on commanding performance from either the 2018 Acura MDX or the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS β€” each model combines V6 engine with 9-speed automatic transmission.

And yet, despite the similarity in power and performance, the Acura MDX is markedly more efficient. Its engine employs Variable Cylinder Management and Intelligent Variable Timing and lift Control (i-VTEC) to achieve up to 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway* as standard. The Mercedes-Benz peaks at 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

Comfort and Flexibility

Both the 2018 Acura MDX and the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS provide room for up to seven as standard, but the Acura is exceedingly versatile thanks to its available second-row captain’s chairs. They provide exceptional comfort, but they’re unavailable with the Mercedes-Benz.

Comfort features tell a similar story. While the Mercedes-Benz doesn’t even offer dual-zone automatic climate control as standard, the Acura equips tri-zone control across all models, even offering innovative GPS-linked climate control to track temperature changes between Pearland and Sugar Land.

Safety

Mercedes-Benz has become known for its safety features, so it’s compelling to see the new MDX go further. A Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) will cost you extra with the Mercedes-Benz GLS, and the Acura’s Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines isn’t available at all.

Also missing is the Acura MDX’s Road Departure Mitigation system, which is able to detect when you’re leaving the road, provide a warning, and finally apply corrective steering pressure to bring you back to center.

The 2018 Acura MDX Upsets the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS

The 2018 Acura MDX offers engineering, technology, and versatility beyond the reach of the Mercedes-Benz GLS. Apply for financing today, or feel free to contact us directly for further information.
